A message for all of us

Posted: March 5, 2007 by stevie

Just sharing what I was reading this morning in devotion in Ecclesiastes 11:9-10.

9Rejoice, O young man, in your youth,
And let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth
Walk in the ways of your heart,
And in the sight of your eyes;

Solomon wrote this when he was old, past his youth, yet, he tells us to enjoy ourselves when we are young! Don’t let ourselves be so heavily burdened by the past, or sins or problems. Sure they are there, but cast your cares on the Lord and He will hear you in times of physical, financial, emotional distress.

But know that for all these
God will bring you into judgment.

This isn’t just a cranky old man talking and begrudging what he no longer has (youth). He’s being very pratical, for as we enjoy all things and ‘walk in the ways of your heart’, he’s saying, God will bring judgement, good or bad, to what we have done. Therefore, in all our actions, or motivations, or words there’s a heavenly register.

10 Therefore remove sorrow from your heart,
And put away evil from your flesh,
For childhood and youth are vanity.

From Matthew Henry’s commentary:

That Solomon means to condemn the pleasures of sin is evident. His object is to draw the young to purer and more lasting joys. This is not the language of one grudging youthful pleasures, because he can no longer partake of them; but of one who has, by a miracle of mercy, been brought back in safety. He would persuade the young from trying a course whence so few return. If the young would live a life of true happiness, if they would secure happiness hereafter, let them remember their Creator in the days of their youth.

So guys, enjoy a good week ahead!!
